Quick Visit with Ryan Burns

On my way to Boston from Greenwich I swung north up towards what used to be ENSR to visit my old co-workers from my stack testing environmental consulting days when I lived outside of Boston. At first I thought everyone was going to be able to meet me for lunch but unfortunately something came up with work and only Burnsy could get a bite to eat with me. I briefly saw Kenny Cobb in the shop but otherwise missed everyone else. Ryan said that there have been a lot of new rules with AECOM taking over the show and times have been tough, but otherwise he and the other guys are doing ok. Ryan now has two children and his wife Mel and he are doing great. I was glad I was able to see Burnsie again and he got to meet Emily as well who had been dropped off with me by her parents on the way back to East Granby. We also were able to really fill ourselves up on soup and sandwich at a bar we went to before getting on our long flight home that evening.

We didn’t have any issues on the flight back thankfully and were able to get the Prius and return back to the apartment by 1:30-2am. We did have an exciting ride home though as the Prius was basically running on fumes the last few miles to our exit off I-5. It has a gas sensor that tells you how many miles you have before you need to get gas. We found out that night that it is a little off thankfully because we drove about 15-20 while it read “0 miles left” on the display. I suppose we could have run on electric mode if necessary but going under 20mph on the highway would not have been pleasant! Unlike the Northeast there are very few 24hr gas stations in the Northwest. It was a long trip and a lot of driving and I was happy to be back in my own bed, but not looking forward to getting up for work 5 hours later!
