Epic Party Bike Helmet Rage & Wauna Viewpoint Hike with Leo

With Emily gone this weekend to Waldport for a girls weekend on the coast I decided to get Leo out of the house for a bit.  Leo’s getting a little creaky with age so instead of an epic 3,000 ft climb in the gorge we stuck to a couple hundred feet over 4 miles up the Wauna Viewpoint off of the Eagle Creek trailhead for some views over the Bonneville Dam and the Gorge.  Read on…

I had gone to Josh and Alina’s going away party Friday night.  This was after drinking at my place with Eric, Conrad and Jason VW and soaking in the tub.  We even got lost biking to the party ending up at a twilight zone intersection of same name streets!  The party was fun and there was an epic scene after Scott told Conrad all of QSI’s hyper spectral sensor plans.  Conrad of course was repeating it to us after Scott had apparently left the party…. when Scott bursts through the gate screaming like a madman and losing his shit, all while wearing a bike helmet which was so Portland that it was hard to keep a straight face while the whole scene was going down.  It was like a mini Kevin Sorbo (Hercules on TV) raging towards us in a bike helmet.  Can’t wait for mind control contact lens camera lenses to be developed…

Scott was screaming that it was all lies and that we didn’t know what we were doing to which I was thinking, “if it’s all lies why are you choosing to lose your shit on us instead of staying behind the fence giggling at us being so gullible?”  Yes, Scott should have known better telling us shit, and yes, Conrad should have waited 15 more minutes to tell us or until Monday to tell our group.  In either case nothing truly damaging was told in my mind and it was pretty clear to all of that Scott wants as badly as everyone else to leave QSI and perhaps him opening up to Conrad was a gesture of reaching out to us for possibilities in the future…

I had played it smart and only chit-chatted with Scott about biking and our Africa Trip.  To be honest I’m still a little bit hurt he chose to stay at QSI and not come with us, after promising us all that he would, choosing money and empty promises at QSI instead.  I think Conrad was shaken by the whole scene but I urged him to forget about it and it didn’t matter anymore.  I actually feel sorry for Scott as I think he now realizes watching everyone around him leave or work in low moral that he made the wrong choice….

Anyway…. took Leo to the Wauna Viewpoint and the two of us had a very delightful hike up to a rocky ridgeline overlook down to dam.  It was along a power line so I also snapped some photos for us to use in marketing at Cardno of the lines.  There were ospreys zooming by on thermals and I got some great pics of the gorge, some cool bugs, and a lot of small flowers that were in bloom before heading back down.  In one shot I brushed up against some of the abundant poison oak along the trail and quickly rinsed my arm off with some water.

In the distance we could see Mt. Adams but all the other volcanoes were blocked by the surrounding hillsides.  On the way out we had to cross a big suspension bridge over Eagle Creek and Leo of course did his usual wide-paw crawl across it.  We then headed home to meet up with Emily after her girls weekend for an evening together before we both headed out on work trips and Leo went to Tom’s for doggy vacation.
