SNOTEL Figures

First Week of Winter Term:

For the past week I’ve been working on the SNOTEL data trying to create figures that would back up my choices of years to look at for both Hood and Rainier. I calculated the total precipitation for each previous year (by previous year I mean 10-1 of the previous fall to 9-30 of the fall in which the Landsat image is from). I also calculated avg temp for the previous year and looked at the SWE by decades for both mountains. I’ve created an online gallery again so you can see the figures I’m making as I make them. Creating these figures actually took me a bit of time because 1. Microsoft excel 2008 on a mac is far different than a PC, and 2. I wanted to make sure that all the dates lined up with the data which meant compensating for leap years in 84, 88, 92, 96, 00, 04, and 08’. Over break I also red a bunch more papers so if you get time I’d love any feedback on the red text I’ve left in them. I like the format of having all my notes and your comments in one place for each paper... it will surely come in handy as a reference tool when I start to write. I still haven’t gotten the LiDAR for Mt. Hood yet so after work tomorrow I’m going to grab it from watershed if I can so that I can start draping the Hood images onto the hillshade. I’m going to keep tinkering with different tools in GIS so that I will learn how to do the spatial analyses that I’ve seen done in several of the papers that I’ve recently read.

P.S. Snow is so poor here they had to close down Ski Bowl.... hopefully you are having a better winter there.
