Skiing the Palmer in February!! Really??

Yup, that’s right. At the end of February Chris, Emily and I found ourselves riding the Palmer Chairlift at Timberline in 30+ degree weather under blue skies. That’s how bad this winter has been for snow. Usually this lift is buried deep in snow due to its high elevation but this year they have been able to open it several times in good weather. Driving past Ski Bowl was just sad... the whole bottom slope was covered in exposed dirt! I don’t know how that resort is going to survive in this recession with only about 20 cars in the parking lot on a beautiful Saturday in February.

Overall the three of us were able to get some fun turns in some pretty heavy snow up top. The report said 17+ inches but it seemed more like 6” up top and that was pretty hard and wind blown powder anyway. Down below the “powder” was essentially play dough to ski through but the awesome weather made up for it. We had a great day (well Chris took a digger and hurt his neck) and we all got a good goggle tan.
